Fred Torres And The Savannah River Rats Trek To Birdsong
For the 18th year, Fred Torres and the group from Savannah Tennessee and beyond arrived at Birdsong Resort and Marina for a fun filled fall weekend by boat. They are part of UT's Volunteer Navy, as they cruise down the river to stay at Birdsong, meet new friends, renew old ones and enjoy the weekend.
As Birdsong's southern hospitality tradition, we like to imprint the UT can huggies with their inscription, "Fred Torres and the Savannah River Rats Annual Kentucky Lake Cruise September 13, 2003 as they have collected all the year’s past. This year’s huggies had Savannah misspelled and they received a lot of extra limited edition “goofs” that had Savanna on the imprint.
Last year, the Savannah bunch met up with a group of six SeaRay boats from lower Illinois and they all concurred that in 2003, they would all communicate before hand and meet here at Birdsong for another "UT Party". Where was the Illini?
Fred’s "Stern Party" included his son from Oklahoma City who got to meet and ride with all the salty sailors from Savannah.
The staff at Birdsong along with Janis and I look forward to the return of the group in 2004.

- 2003 Big Sandy Waterfowl Festival
The 2003 Ducks Unlimited Waterfowl Festival held in Big Sandy, TN on Saturday, August 2 was a wet one. Thousands of duck hunters gathered from all over Tennessee for the TWRA duck blind drawing. Exhibitors sporting boats, hunting gear, accessories and food items were all on hand for the annual event. Birdsong Resort, Marina came out in full force for the day's activities.
